Notes from the Administrator

I hope this finds everyone well and you are keeping yourself safe during the hot days of summer. Please check on your friends, family and neighbors during the extremely hot days. Here are a few updates from June, 2026.

District Attorney Jennifer Harper provided her notice of resignation. The Governor’s office is responsible for appointing the next District Attorney for the county and notice of the opening has been posted.

On June 5, 2026, Jeffrey Harrison was sworn in as the Richland County Clerk. His first day in the office was June 8, 2026. At the full county board meeting in June, the board voted to continue the Richland Ambulance service through December 31, 2028. This will provide the municipalities time to create a district and take over the operations of the service. The next step will be to create a committee of county board members and the municipalities.

Another item voted on was the repairs to the upper Ash Creek parking lot. The heavy rain this spring caused damage to the lot, resulting in its closure. The board approved fixing the lot at the meeting and the work has since been completed. Thank you for your patience during the time lot was closed.

The board also approved the bid for the demolition of the three campus buildings. The work to remove the Library, Classroom and Science buildings will start in July. No final decision has been made on the Coppertop. This will be discussed at the next Campus Reconfiguration Meeting.

There continues to be two open positions on the county board. If you live in District 19 or 20 and are interested in being a board supervisor, please submit a letter of interest to Clerk Harrison.
