District 8 - Shirley Welte
Brief personal background (education, profession, any previous involvement in local government or community organizations, etc.):
Shirley has decades of leadership experience in the energy industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in organizational leadership. Shirley’s love for Richland County began in 1979, when she visited her soon-to-be in-laws’ dairy farm. She and her husband now live on that farm, raising a flock of sheep. Throughout her career, she has been active in local nonprofit organizations and economic development efforts.
What motivated you to run for County Board Supervisor?
Richland County is facing some tough challenges and has difficult decisions ahead. She believes it is our responsibility as leaders to seek stability and to protect and promote Richland County.
What are your main goals or priorities for Richland County?
- Stabilizing ambulance services
- Achieving positive outcomes for the UW–Richland campus
- Ensuring affordable living for families, seniors, and farmers
